Education and Program Intern

Reports to: Outreach Educator

Guidelines: Minimum of 2 months, 8 to 10 hours per week, possible weekends. Schedule can be flexible. Internships are non-compensated. All interns must be interviewed and complete an application to participate

Duties:
Learn and facilitate Early Explorers Program.
Assist educators with program material preparation.
Research program topics in order to develop or enhance curriculum.
Learn and facilitate basic tours of the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum.
Develop and maintain weekly texture table.
Research, maintain, and facilitate science cart demonstrations.
Maintain Art Activity Center
Assist with mailings related to the promotion of educational programming.
Explain and demonstrate exhibits to patrons

Qualifications:
Intern should be on an education track (experience working with children is preferred).
Basic computer skills including web research experience.
Public speaking experience or ability to be comfortable speaking to patrons one-on-one, and in small and large groups.
Value discovery learning and interest to teach though hands on exploration.
Exhibit professional behavior, customer service, responsible work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to learn new information.

Academic Credit:
Contact your school directly regarding their policies for obtaining course credit for internships. The Museum encourages interns to seek academic credit and will assist whenever possible.

Benefits:
Education and Program Interns at MHCM will gain experience in developing and presenting educational programs to youth. They will gain a firm understanding of the concept and educational value of a children’s museum. Interns will be an important part of daily operations and work with all staff and departments as a team.
