Creating Treasure from Trash

Each year, volunteers work to clean the Fall Kill Creek as it runs through the City of Poughkeepsie. This spring 2009, three tons of garbage was removed from the Creek, including seven buckets of glass that were used in the sculpture “Light at the End of the Fallkill” located in the Hudson River Dive Bell exhibit.

Littering, dumping and water quality issues have plagued the Creek for decades. Thanks to the work of the Fall Kill Watershed Committee, a coalition of concerned individuals and groups, people are recognizing this important connection to the natural environment and the watershed.

This artwork was made possible in part through a grant from the Dutchess County Arts Council, administrator of public funds through NYSCA’s Decentralization Program. Artist: Rachel Collet of Tivoli.
Name of sculpture: “Light at the End of the Fallkill”
