Exhibits Internship
Reports to: Director of Exhibits
Guidelines: Minimum of 2 months, and a minimum of 8 to 10 hours per week (M-F). Regular schedule preferred, but can be flexible. Internships are non-compensated. All interns must be interviewed and complete an application to participate.
Duties:
Assist supervising staff in maintaining, modifying, and renovating existing
exhibits, as well as fabricating new exhibits.
Research new exhibit ideas.
Work with staff to ensure all exhibits are safe and working properly.
Become familiar with exhibits in order to educate the public in proper use and
understanding.
Responsible for general cleaning, and maintenance of building and exhibits.
Responsible for ensuring exhibits are on and operational on a daily basis, and/or
properly closed down in the evening.
Qualifications:
Desire to learn about exhibit design and development.
Willingness to assist as needed in a cooperative team environment.
Interest in exhibit fabrication, operation, and maintenance.
Basic computer skills
Interest in educating children through interactive exhibits.
Academic Credit:
Contact your school directly regarding their policies for obtaining course credit
for internships. The Museum encourages interns to seek academic credit and will
assist interns whenever possible.

Exhibit Interns at MHCM will gain experience in non-profit operations specifically
related to exhibit research, exhibit development, education and maintenance
in a
children’s museum. Interns will be an important part of daily operations
and work with all staff and departments as a team as well as interact with the
public.
