Public Relations/Marketing Intern

Reports to: Communications Manager

Guidelines: Minimum of 2 months, 15 to 20 hours per week (M-F). Regular schedule preferred, but can be flexible. Internships are non-compensated. All interns must be interviewed and complete an application to participate.

Duties:
Create and maintain media lists.
Research and draft press materials.
Research community and neighborhood events that provide opportunities for MHCM participation.
Maintain calendar of these events.
Coordinate participation in these events and, in many cases, attend events along with staff members to share information about MHCM.
Assist with research and writing of newsletter and email communications to members and supporters.
Maintain records of press clippings and media coverage.
Distribute MHCM promotional materials to the community

Qualifications:
Knowledge of basic marketing channels and how they are used.
Willingness to assist as needed in a cooperative team environment
Excellent writing skills as well as firm grasp on rules of grammar.
Ability to prepare press materials including press releases, media alerts, press kits.
Public Relations coursework a plus.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Adobe Pagemaker and Photoshop, web design a plus.

Academic Credit:
Contact your school directly regarding their policies for obtaining course credit for internships. The Museum encourages interns to seek academic credit and will assist interns whenever possible.

Benefits:
Public Relations/Marketing Interns at MHCM will gain experience in non-profit management specifically related to public relations, marketing, and the communications department of a children’s museum. Interns will be an important part of daily operations and work with all staff and departments as a team.
