Fossils and Fun
July 5 - 9

From dinosaurs to mastodons, encounter the creatures that roamed the earth long ago! Young paleontologists will dig for fossils and learn how to make their own! Experience the Ice Age habitat of the Hyde Park Mastodon in our new exhibit. Climb up a tree to gaze eyeball to eye socket with a a 12-foot tall Mastodon! Cost

Pottery, Plants and Play
July 12 - 16 9:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.
Experience the activities and lifestyles of the first people who inhabited the Mid-Hudson Valley, the Algonquian Native Americans. Campers will mold a clay pot, dramatize companion planting, play Native American games and more! A Native American guest artist will engage campers in a dynamic storytelling session. Cost

To Infinity and Beyond

Day turns into night as campers enter our inflatable planetarium - STARLAB. Finding stars and constellations like Polaris, the North Star and the Big Dipper will be easy when campers use their very own painted star umbrella. Cost

Crazy Concoctions

Experiment with different substances and make scientific concoctions that fizz, pop and swish! Through hands-on methods and observation, young scientists will create exciting chemical reactions and make their own slime! Cost

Art Odyssey

Imagine the possibilities of using paint, clay and shaving cream! Budding artists will explore a different arty technique using a range of familiar and unusual materials. Cost

Nature Explorers

The Hudson River comes to life in the cozy confines of our camp classroom. Campers will examine bugs and fish from the river, play the water cycle game and sing songs! Cost

Creek Peek
August 2 - 6 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Ages 7 - 9 Extended care from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m., $40 per child.
Campers will get a hands-on experience as they put on waders and enter the creek to explore the life that lurks within! We'll examine the creek, seine the river, play games and more! Includes hands-on activities, crafts, snack, discovery time in the museum, field trips to the Dutchess County Jewish Community Center for swimming and to the Poughkeepsie Water Treatment Plant. Campers must bring lunch, drinks and snacks. Campers are responsible for all of their belongings.Cost

Tween Train Travelers
June 28 - July 2 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Ages 9 - 11
Museum educator, Lisa DiMarzo, and museum staff will take the campers to ride the rails and discover new and exciting destinations along the Hudson River. Each day, campers will get on the Metro North train for an excursion away from Poughkeepsie to places like Dia: Beacon, the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers and Wave Hill in Riverdale. Children will meet at the museum in the morning and return to the museum for pick-up each day. Campers must bring lunch, drinks, and snacks. Campers are responsible for ALL of their belongings.

Sample Site Descriptions for Tween Train Travelers:
Dia: Beacon, Riggio Galleries: The museum is situated on the banks of the Hudson River in Beacon, New York. Dia: Beacon occupies a former Nabisco box-printing facility.

Hudson River Museum: Visit will include the Andrus Planetarium and Hudson Riverama, a permanent gallery devoted to the environment of the Hudson and its shores.

Wave Hill: Public garden and cultural center is one of the treasures of the Bronx, 28 acres of art and beauty nestled in the middle of the city.

Summer Fun at the Children's Museum

Half Day Camp
Ages 4 - 6

Hands-on activities, crafts and story time highlight our half-day sessions for young campers. Daily snacks and discovery time in the museum add to the fun! Each week's session will conclude with a presentation by the campers based on the camp theme. Family and friends are invited to come to the presentation.

Summer Playgroups

Messy Art

  • Get messy with a different painting technique each week.
  • Three Fridays: August 6, 13 and 20
  • 2:00 PM in the museum's Pavilion
  • Ages 3 and up
  • Cost: $4 per session with museum admission or $10 for all 3 session at time of registration.

Multi-Age Playgroup
